Here’s a unique 1951 Studebaker Champion Starlite Coupe with upgrades and updates for driveability, appearance, and performance, and it’s now available from the MaxMotive Pittsburgh Showroom. It sports the ultimate in reliability drivetrains starting with a 350 small block V8 engine that has been fortified with an Edelbrock 4-barrel carb on an Edelbrock aluminum intake. Exhaust exits via coated headers and the engine is dressed with polished valve covers and a chrome air cleaner. A Champion aluminum radiator also adds to the dependability factor. A Turbo 350 automatic transmission and Ford 9-inch rear are also there for the long haul. The paint is a creamy white with light green pearl flames that fade in and out along with hand-painted pinstriping. The door handles were shaved and door poppers added. The wheels are polished 5-spoke aluminum alloy units for a period-correct look. A light green cloth interior is roomy and comfortable and features a tilt steering wheel, tach, hidden auxiliary gauges, and an AM/FM/CD receiver. Handling is enhanced via a Mustang II front end with power rack & pinion steering and Wilwood power front disc brakes. And of course, there’s the distinctive wrap-around rear window where the “Starlite” derives its name.
