Description

In the Mustang world, you could call this the “everything car.” It’s an original GT Convertible with its original High Performance 289 and a 4-speed manual transmission. The all-black color scheme makes it all the more rare and desirable. It features many options including the deluxe Pony interior, a full length center console, and the beautiful wood grain steering wheel. The High Performance K-Code 289 was the ultimate Mustang powerplant in 1965, even gracing the vaunted Shelby GT350. So there are some period-correct GT350 upgrades here including the GT350 Lemans carburetor on an S1MS (Shelby, 1st year, Mustang, Street) Cobra intake. The S1MS GT350 finned aluminum extra capacity oil pan and the finned aluminum GT350 valve covers (you know, the ones that say, “Cobra Powered by Ford”) are prized collectibles in their own right. Along with a set of 15-inch GT350 Cragar/Shelby wheels, the upgrades are period appropriate and all part of Ford’s Total Performance heritage. Mustang’s GT package brought some great performance hardware such as front disc brakes and a special, larger master cylinder, quick ratio (16:1) steering, and handling suspension, plus appearance items that distinguish the car as a GT. GT badging and stripes, plus factory fog lamps, and dual chrome exhaust outlets offer an air of premium distinction. The rally pac, which is a beautiful column-mounted clock and unique 8000 rpm tach represent more special hardware and added value. More options such as the Visibility Group, consisting of a day/night rearview mirror and a remote-controlled driver’s mirror; deluxe retractable seat belts, and an AM/FM radio place this Mustang ahead of its time. Even the back-up lights were optional, but they’re here. This 1965 Ford Mustang GT K-Code Convertible is an exciting find. All the value-added factory options are present, coupled with significant upgrades in keeping with the storied lineage of one of Ford Motor Company’s greatest triumphs – the original pony car.
