Vehicle Description

One of the staples of the American car scene in the 60’s was the full size car.  None represented that uniquely American segment better than the Pontiac Grand Prix.  A convertible model meant the ultimate in style and luxury. This frame-up restored 1967 Grand Prix in red with a white top and fender skirts is a stellar example of the breed.  But it adds another dimension to the equation — killer performance. Sure, many claimed back in the day that their cars, while big, were also fast. The stories abound. But few back up their claims with hardware like this.  Perhaps it would be prudent to simply demonstrate before revealing your secret. But when you do open the hood, there it is in all its glory – a 1968 Chevrolet 427 big block! It looks menacing with those finned aluminum Mickey Thompson valve covers – the same ones that graced many a dragster during the glory days.  But this one runs on 21st centrury technology with a Holley programmable fuel injection system on an Edelbrock Torker intake. There’s plenty of work inside too. The cylinders were bored .030 over and filled with TRW forged pistons. Then, closed chamber big block heads were torqued in place.  A high lift hydraulic cam provides plenty of power and an idle with attitude.  Roller rockers ensure smooth performance even at high rpm. MSD ignition gets it all started.  A big motor like this needs a good cooling system, and this car has it. A large aluminum radiator with overflow tank and three automatic electric fans keep the rat motor cool while you’re cruising with the top down.   A rugged M20 4-speed manual with a B&M shifter transmits the torque to a 3.42 geared rear end. This is classic American muscle at its finest! A striking red finish sets the tone with a white soft top and fender skirts.  The rear window is glass. The interior fits right in with the image. Black leather bucket seats and a center console add an air of luxury befitting a full size ride. The car deserved a nice set of wheels, so Boyd billets were pressed into service on Goodyear Gatorback radials.  The quality of the build is evident in other details too, like a trunk mounted battery with disconnect switch and rear air shocks. Of course it brings all the style of a classic Wide Track Pontiac – she’s a beautiful Grand Prix from her hideaway headlights to the massive chrome rear bumper and rumbling dual exhaust.  This is truly an exceptional cruising car with a 427 cubic inch bonus.
