Vehicle Description

An all-aluminum .100 over big block measuring 447 cubic inches sends an estimated 600 horsepower through a Muncie M22 4-speed to a 4.30 12-bolt Posi rear. All this in a 1969 Nova that started life as a triple black 375 horsepower 396 4-speed. The car was always fast, but now it’s kicked up another couple notches. And it works. Those diminutive looking tires are actually radials. Working with the Competition Engineering shocks (90/10 in front and 50/50 rear) and Lakewood traction bars the car hooks amazingly well. As soon as you fire up this aluminum block, aluminum head, 13:1 compression ratio, ZL1 cammed beast, you’ll know it was done right. So who did it? With the car are invoices from both Yenko Chevrolet and Jenkins Competition indicating that Chevy luminaries Don Yenko and Bill Jenkins collaborated on the build. The previous owner candidly admits, “We didn’t think about the history or the values or the future appreciation of these cars back then. We just bought and sold these fast cars and never worried about keeping the documents or any of that stuff.” So as with many muscle machines, even important classics, the paper trail is difficult to follow all the way back to the beginning. What has been gathered, though, is worth telling. The story goes that the car was sold new at Yenko Chevrolet in Cannonsburg, PA in May of 1969. It was later brought back to Yenko for an upgrade. The upgrade was to the pinnacle of the big block Chevy world, a Can-Am spec aluminum block 427, of which Yenko produced just 17. Yenko sent the block to Jenkins Competition for assembly in January of 1982. Jenkins Competition did the complete assembly including balancing, competition valve job, and degreeing the cam in February 1982. Paper trail notwithstanding, the hardware speaks volumes. The aluminum big block is here replete with the Yenko stamping right in front, along with the rest of the potent drivetrain. It’s an original Tuxedo black car with black vinyl interior and black vinyl top. The original buyer’s intentions are clear, as this Nova was ordered as a big block 4-speed with radio and heater delete. The car has been restored to a high level with regard to the body and paint, engine compartment, interior, and undercarriage. And this was done by its most recent owner who then has an intimate knowledge of this truly special machine. It invites your closest personal inspection. Please note: There is documentation with the car, but the seller makes no representations regarding the authenticity of such documents or the provenance of the vehicle. This is a beautiful and unique Nova, and it’s something of a sleeper. Only the 427 badges up front hint at the true performance of this 1969 Chevrolet Nova SS. Who dunnit? The sound and performance of this amazing build begs the question, “Who are these guys?” We just might have the answer.
