Vehicle Description

This 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 is a stellar example of the final year of the first generation Mustang. With all the choices offered, this car is right in the drivetrain sweet spot featuring some of Ford’s best ever hardware. Total performance aplenty bursts from a 351 Cleveland V8 engine and a Hurst shifted four speed manual transmission, clear through to the legendary 9-inch rear axle. In true muscle era tradition, there has been some tweaking in the engine room. On top sits a big Holley double-pumper style four barrel carb on a high-rise open air Edelbrock aluminum intake. This combo not only produces power, it looks great doing it. The top end is nicely dressed with black finned aluminum valve covers and matching Cobra air cleaner. Inside, a hydraulic roller lifter kit allows high revs while alleviating concerns about lubrication. Ignition is by MSD, featuring a Pro-Billet distributor, Blaster coil, 6AL ignition control, even MSD wires. Combustion by-products exit through a handsome set of coated headers into a hefty dual exhaust system complete with H pipe. Big Magnaflow mufflers allow the 351 to breathe, and they sound fabulous. The color is the original Medium Copper, a gorgeous metallic shade that contrasts well with the black hood striping and Mach 1 graphics. The interior color is ginger, a great match for the copper paint, and it completes a very attractive color scheme for this car. It’s hard to beat the period correct vibe with the color combination and a set of one of the all-time great hot rod wheels, the beautiful chrome Cragar S/S. A super deep offset pair in the rear allows the use of ultra wide 295/50R15s Goodrich radials. They’re teamed with 245/60R15 fronts for the perfect big n’ little look. To maximize their potential, the entire front end was completely overhauled. The shocks, control arms, ball joints, and tie rod ends are just a few of the new components. With power steering and power disc brakes, this Mustang is a worthy steed for serious drivers. The engine and suspension work was completed less than 1000 miles ago. A nice thick, wood rimmed 3-spoke steering wheel sets off a great Mach 1 interior, with bucket seats, center console, and a full set of factory gauges, including the big factory tach and a working clock. Sitting in the high back seat with one hand on that trick wheel, and the other on the Hurst shifter, you’ll agree this is one great muscle car cockpit. The ‘73 Mach 1 has its own front end look, and this one has the front spoiler. In the back is the famous Larry Shinoda-designed rear wing to complete the look that makes the Mach 1 a legend. The 1973 Mach 1 bridges the gap between a sports car and a muscle car, and its unmistakable J-car inspired fastback design has earned it many loyal fans. This one is all built, and all ready to go at Maxmotive.
