1978 Dodge D13 – U0848
Vehicle Description
Featured in the Maxmotive Pittsburgh Showroom is this 1978 Dodge Little Red Express Pickup. It has the numbers correct 360 cubic inch “Special” V8 and corresponding A-727 LoadFlite automatic transmission, plus the original VIN plate and Equipment Identification plate 3.55 gears in the AV2 code rear axle provide the right balance of performance and driveability on the street. This excellent example boasts the Deluxe Vinyl Interior, featuring bucket seats and a fold down armrest/console. It also came with the handsome “Tuff Steering Wheel,” an AM/FM radio, the Adventurer Package, and the optional Convenience Package. The unique Little Red Truck Package brings with it the famous dual exhaust (with crossover pipe) with chrome vertical stack pipes, chrome exhaust tips and stainless heat shields; chrome plated bed side steps; utiline body side and tailgate oak trim panels with chrome-headed prop nuts; and of course gold 3M decals on the doors and tailgate. Yet the Little Red Express is much more than an appearance package, as the 360 V8 is a modified E58 police engine. It was the hot muscle machine in 1978. Car and Driver magazine tested the truck and called it the fastest American made vehicle from 0-100 mph. Notice the word vehicle, not truck. Dodge took advantage of a loophole in emissions regulations that did not require catalytic converters in trucks, and endowed the Express with their most powerful engine available at the time. An Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor updates the performance on this one. Staggered P245 and P275/60R15 Goodrich white letter radials wrap polished slotted aluminum wheels, while power steering and power front disc brakes offer easy handling. The engine compartment highlights a polished alternator and Mopar finned aluminum valve covers and a chrome air cleaner. The original dual snorkel air cleaner comes with it as well. Another storied chapter in Dodge’s fabled performance history (was this inspired by the legendary Little Red Wagon?) the Little Red Express offered unique appearance and outstanding performance, and today has many fans including Little Red Truck clubs. Believed to have accumulated just 62264 actual miles, this 1978 Dodge Little Red Express runs and looks great, and it’s ready for some serious hauling.
