1953 Corvette Custom “Twelve Air” Specs

Body

The overall design is inspired by our CF1 production cars and the 1953 GM Motorama Corvair concept car. Although it might resemble our carbon fiber production cars, The Kindig CF1, not a single part had been taken off the shelf from those cars, as well as many of the proportions and shapes like the wheel wells are different as well. We tried to create something completely different. We wanted to do everything we possibly could one-off specifically for this project. The body was fabricated using a buck and was done in three pieces: the top/outer shell hand-formed out of 3003 aluminum, the floor/bottom done in the same way, with a reinforced structure made of thicker 6061 sheet metal that is sandwiched together to create a monocoque/unibody. The only other separate pieces to the body are the doors and the hood. No donor car was used; it was all designed and built from the ground up in-house.

Engine / Exhaust

The engine is a custom-ordered cast aluminum LS-based V12 called a V12LS from the Australian-based company Race Cast Engineering. It is currently tuned down to roughly 650 hp and nearly identical torque. The engine is capable of far more, but this output is more than enough for us taking it show to show for now.

The exhaust was built in-house with a stainless 3-into-2-into-1 collector style headers with a 3-inch stainless that has the augers integrated in place of a muffler. The tip was built into the body. Race Cast also casted a piece we designed that we call the nose cone. The nose cone is attached to the front of the engine and houses the rack and pinion steering, the pass-through for the engine cooling, and some suspension components like the sway bar and the front spring. A modified automatic C7 transaxle was used. The torque tube was extended, and the housing was replaced with one that was thicker and more structurally sound.

Suspension

The suspension is inspired by F1 and Indy car suspension but utilizes only one spring mounted horizontally. The front suspension has an A-arm on top that connects to the nose cone, an H-arm that connects to the reinforced oil pan, push rods, and a sway bar that is two pieces that are coupled in the middle. The rear suspension is very similar with the pushrod design, the sway bar, single spring, and the lower H-arm connecting to the transaxle housing… But the top differs by resembling more of a traditional cantilever setup and the upper components are the only suspension components that are actually attached to the body as they bolt to the inner reinforced structure. Due to the push rods and the unique sway bar, the spring is able to act similar to two separate springs as each side moves. The drivetrain is bolted to that inner structure, making it an integral part of the car’s load-bearing structure.

Wheels

Evod was responsible for machining the wheels. 19×8 front, 20×12 rear. They are a monolug, 5-spoke design and utilize a proprietary design Dave came up with to hide all the hardware. They were chromed by Ogden Chrome. Diamond Back Classics shaved the Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Wilwood Aero6 front, Aero4 rear that were painted to match the engine with chrome Twelvair logos.

Interior

Most of the interior is 3D printed and wrapped in a Sienna-colored leather. The dash coves/pods were inspired by early Corvettes, while the center console and overall cockpit feel took inspiration from later Corvettes. The one-off aluminum steering wheel takes inspiration from both the squared shape of the C8 but takes the overall styling from the C1. The gauge cluster has white gold inlaid with diamonds for the markings. The upper rear suspension components are hidden within the faux luggage in the rear. The top of the luggage can be opened to reveal the components. All the custom polycarbonate and trim are all perfectly flush with the painted body. The taillights are automated to pop up with the control unit in the center console to reveal the plug-in for the battery tender and the fuel filler.

Paint

Our body and paint team finished every surface to the same degree top to bottom, even areas hidden by the drivetrain that aren’t even visible. The color is Modern Classikk “Infrared”, and the accent color found throughout the interior, engine, drivetrain, etc., is a custom mix called “Sagebrushed,” which is a satin bronze color.

Renowned custom builder Dave Kindig and his team performed a complete body-off custom build to create a one-of-a-kind 1950 Volkswagen Hebmuller Cabriolet. Kindig, of Kindig-It Design in Utah, calls the Hebmuller the rarest and coolest Volkswagen. The team started with a complete genuine Hebmuller, a special sports version of the VW Type 1 of which fewer than 700 were produced. VW Trends Magazine says approximately 100 are believed to exist today. The Kindig team started by installing a custom VW engine generating 176 horsepower. Then the engineers went to work to install a Vanagon automatic transmission for driving ease and to handle the extra power. Other mechanical upgrades include 4-wheel disc brakes, and a fully independent coilover suspension, which gives the car a refined, lowered stance. The sheetmetal was stripped, custom metalwork performed, and custom paint applied. The two-tone paint colors are Kindig’s own mixes of Bad Blood Red and Black Hole Black. Soft leather seats in pale gray complement the gray and black interior, which is a fascinating blend of classic and modern elements from the vintage analog clock to the tidy Dakota Digital gauges. Please be sure to see the detailed photos at www.maxmotive.com.

Renowned custom designer and automotive artist Dave Kindig and his team performed a complete custom build to create a one-of-a-kind 1953 Volkswagen Barn Door Deluxe 23-window Bus. The team started with a complete genuine 1953 BarnDoor 23-window VW Bus. The Kindig team started by installing a custom VW engine with twin Weber 48 carbs generating 176 horsepower. Then they installed a 1987 Vanagon automatic transmission for driving ease and to handle the extra power. The sheet metal was stripped, custom metalwork performed, and custom paint applied. The two-tone paint colors are Kindig’s own mixes of Bad Blood Red and Black Hole Black. Solid stock aluminum was hand formed and triple chrome plated to create the trim Soft leather seats in pale gray complement the rich gray German wool carpeting and custom headliner. The chrome Jail Bar luggage containment is a genuine feature of the Barn Door buses. A modern touch is a handsome Dakota digital gauge package. It rides on a lowered suspension with 4-wheel slotted disc brakes and staggered custom Kindig wheels. It was designed as a companion to the Collection’s 1950 VW Hebmuller Cabriolet. Please be sure to see the detailed photos at www.maxmotive.com.

Here’s a comprehensively restored and highly detailed 40s era Cushman Good Humor 3-wheel scooter. The beautiful white paint is complemented by all-hand-painted graphics and striping that make this scooter a true work of art. It’s powered by a Cushman single cylinder engine with a 2⅞ inch bore and 2¾ inch stroke. Even the engine is pretty. A fully functional cooler box is foam insulated. Dual bells alert customers of your arrival. In back is a roomy locking storage compartment. Chrome headlight housings and bumpers add to appearance, and a coil suspension helps with the handling. A functional and charming historic vehicle, this 40s era Cushman Good Humor 3-wheel Scooter is a great addition to any collection. Be sure to see the detailed photos at www.maxmotive.com.

Fewer than 2000 Checker Marathons are said to exist today, due to their heavy duty work, famously as New York City taxicabs. This example was originally a personal vehicle of the president of the Yellow Cab Company, and has been preserved as an important part of automotive history. Marathon is an appropriate name for a vehicle with a truck-like body on frame construction and drivetrain components designed for high performance vehicles and trucks. The Turbo 400 automatic transmission and Dana 60 rear end are more than a match for the thrifty Chevrolet inline 6. Long hours of operation are easier with power steering and power front disc brakes. Actual taxi equipment including the Rockwell fare meter and Motorola two-way radio remain on board. The paint is Yellow Cab Yellow with authentic taxicab graphics. The cab rides on fresh Hankook white stripe radials. Many have asked for a no-frills car designed for durability. From 1961 to 1982 that car was the Checker Marathon. See the detailed photos at www.maxmotive.com.

This 1971 Chevrolet C10 Fleetside Pickup combines big block power and an all-star list of hardware, with outstanding appearance. Beginning with a sweet Georgia peach of a foundation, the truck was treated to a Jasper-built 454ci big block V8 engine. Plenty of power is produced with a Holley carb on a Holley aluminum intake, Hooker Headers with complete dual exhaust, and MSD ignition. That “just right” look comes courtesy of the beautiful Omaha Orange and Frost White two-tone paint, CPP drop springs with drop spindles, and polished 20-inch American Racing Torq Thrust wheels. The tires are big 245/40ZR20 and 275/35R20 high performance radials. The trucks theme of bold but tasteful continues on the inside. A new orange interior with custom cloth houndstooth trim sets things off. A super trick dash with a full set of Intellitronix gauges is vintage and high tech all at the same time. Air conditioning by Old Air Products keeps you comfortable, while a Sony AM/FM/CD stereo supplies the tunes (when you’re not listening to that killer exhaust tone!) See the detailed photos at www.maxmotive.com.

From the Maxmotive Pittsburgh Showroom comes this multifaceted 1971 Chevrolet K5 Blazer. It packs a punch with an Air Flow Research fortified 350 small block. The polished aluminum AFR heads process the mixture from a Holley 4-barrel and polished Edelbrock intake and send it out through coated tube headers. The truck achieves its menacing look from a dropped suspension, trick polished aluminum Rallye wheels with chrome center caps, and a striking orange and white color scheme. For open-air cruising, the top is removable. The interior is done in black with bucket seats, a rich wood rim steering wheel, and cool Mr. Horsepower floor mats. The dash is the original style featuring a factory tach. The sanitary engine room pops with polished valve covers, chrome alternator, and a polished billet serpentine pulley system, and topped off with a unique color-matched air cleaner. It’s quick, but a pleasure to drive thanks to the Turbo 350 automatic transmission, power steering, and power front disc brakes. This 1971 Chevrolet K5 Blazer offers big power, head-turning looks, and the ability to bring some friends and their gear along for open-air fun.

This 1987 Mercedes Benz 560SL proudly wears the three point star on its grille. It is a stunning example of the breed in Signal Red with a mere 28246 actual miles. It features the all-aluminum 5.6L V8 engine that was exclusive to the North American market. The 560SL is beloved today because of its combination of looks, performance suited to American roads and tastes, sure-footed independent suspension handling, and the attention to detail and engineering characteristic of a Benz. For example, oil and coolant level indicators, brake pad wear indicator, outside temperature indicator (thermometer), and a full gauge package that includes a tachometer of course, but also an Economy gauge to help you save fuel are all items seldom seen even today. Other amenities, such as air conditioning, cruise control and power windows, locks and mirrors were also standard equipment. The original aluminum wheels remain in place and complete the stately Mercedes appearance. The car has always been professionally maintained.

A sight to behold, here is an ultra-exclusive (One of only 50) 2018 Mercedes Benz AMG GT C 50th Anniversary. A mint example with only 552 careful miles, this unique ultra high performance and ultra luxurious Benz offers high-end content and world-class technology. With input from Mercedes Benz’ own Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, the company’s AMG racing branch developed the AMG GT entirely in-house. Powered by an authoritative 550 horsepower 4.0L Bi-Turbo V8, it is an extremely engaging automobile with five driving modes. They are Individual (which lets you blend characteristics of the others), Comfort, Sport, Sport +, and Race. You can even adjust the sound of the exhaust. Paddle shifters allow you to operate the AMG Speedshift 7-speed Dual Clutch Automatic Transmission manually. The AMG GT C is a world-class sports car in its own right, but to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of AMG, 50 of these special editions were offered. The 50th Anniversary Edition adds the matte Designo Graphite Gray Magno exterior finish; forged gloss black cross-spoke AMG wheels; black chrome front splitter, fender vent fins, and side skirt inserts; plus black chrome rear diffuser trim and black chrome exhaust outlets. The interior gets silver pearl and black Nappa leather diamond-stitched upholstery, AMG black chrome interior trim, an AMG full Dinamica suede-covered steering wheel (and roof liner), and AMG Edition 50 badging. Burmester High End sound fills the cabin, Mercedes’ optional Parktronic system aids with parking, and the Distronic option is an autonomous cruise-control system. There are many delightful features not found on many cars. The top of the steering wheel is marked just like a Formula 1 car and it’s connected to an electrohydraulic steering rack. The engine and transaxle mounts are electronically controlled to provide an optimum blend of comfort and precision. And there’s a “Handcrafted” badge on the engine cover with the personal signature of the AMG technician who assembled the engine.

“This was one of the last cars Boyd had his mind and hands on before his passing. And just like all his projects, this ‘32 utilizes only the best products, and greatest depth of skill available.” – Roger C. Johnson. This is the car that became known as “The Master’s Last Hod Rod” after the untimely passing of master builder Boyd Coddington. Boyd was indeed a master, building cars for star personalities and launching the careers of the likes of Chip Foose, Jesse James, and Larry Erickson, Chief Designer of the Mustang and Thunderbird at Ford Motor Company. You would expect the product of Boyd’s many successful years of design and building experience to be something special – and it is. Boyd personally took the car to 90% complete status. Then, as a tribute to the legend, some of the greatest names in the custom car industry brought it to completion. The body was recreated by Coddington’s Shop of Wonders with help from Marcel’s Custom Metal Shaping, creating a longer hood and side panels, and matching stretched fenders. The finish is a simple but effective application of rich black exterior paint by Bernet Carlsen. The crowning touch is the one-of-a-kind steel lift-off top. Ample power is supplied by none other than Roush Racing – a 358 cubic inch fuel injected Ford small block with a complete roller valvetrain and custom fabbed headers. The exhaust exits in a marvelously executed single outlet that fits ingeniously beneath the chromed independent rear suspension. Ron Mangus worked his magic on the interior, which presents the luxurious high-end feel of the world’s greatest automobiles. Black high-grade leather covers the power bucket seats, and the look, feel, and that wonderful aroma confirm that only the very best made it into this build. Wool carpeting, deep, dark wood trim, and custom gauges highlight a truly decadent cabin. Superior engineering was always a Boyd trademark, and this build is a showcase. The car has fully independent suspension with coil overs at all four corners. Also all the way around are power disc brakes. Driver control is also aided by power rack & pinion steering. The closer and longer you look, the more amazing details you discover – as it is with any true masterpiece. The essence of Boyd Coddington permeates this one-of-a-kind creation. It’s a magnum opus of a beloved and respected leader, innovator, teacher, and craftsman whose work has been carefully preserved here. The odometer currently shows less than one mile. A 1932 Ford B400 Custom Convertible, verified in the Official Boyd Coddington American Registry with a Certificate of Authenticity.

The Shelby Cobra is one of the world’s most famous and recognizable sports cars. Like Carroll Shelby himself, the car is a true icon in the world of high performance. It spawned other great nameplates like the Shelby GT500, Torino Cobra, and the 428 Cobra Jet engine. This CSX4000 Series 427 S/C from Shelby Automobiles Inc. is everything the 1965 models were, and more. The authenticity is documented by Shelby CSX numbers and a manufacturer’s statement of origin (MSO) from Shelby Automobiles. Improvements include a stronger steel frame and better alloys used in the components, plus better cooling and additional heat shielding to make the car safer and more driveable without losing any of its original character. This 1965 Shelby Cobra SC is one of fifty 50th Anniversary Editions. It’s one of 29 with an aluminum body, and one of only three that were painted. The stripes harken back to Carroll Shelby’s history at LeMans. The aluminum block 427 is the product of the combined efforts of Shelby Motor Company and Roush-Yates. With it comes a complete dyno sheet documenting the brutal output of the engine at near 600 horsepower. There’s also a build book showing you exactly how the car was built and how it’s equipped, fascinating and enjoyable reading for sure. But there’s nothing that compares with getting in the seat behind all those gauges with Carroll Shelby’s signature and firing it up. The ultra-high-performance intent is clear. Big Stroud safety harnesses, a fire suppression system, 10½ inch Goodyear Eagles, Halibrand-style wheels with knock-off spinners, and chrome roll bar are obvious clues. Then when you hear this beast run, you’ll know. The storied history and pedigree of the Shelby Cobra is unmatched. And the power to weight ratio on this car takes you to performance levels approached by few other cars in the world. With just 60 test-only miles on it, we at MAXmotive are absolutely thrilled to offer you this spectacular new 50th Anniversary Edition 1965 Shelby Cobra CSX4000 Roadster.

Kids of all ages love Corvettes.  There are Corvette models, pedal toys, die-cast collectibles, and the list goes on. Bigger kids have all kinds of real Vettes, many in impressive numbers. So there’s no doubt that kids from one to 92 will go crazy over this truly amazing 1956 Corvette replica.  The real delight comes from the fact that it’s actually a car, and the detail is fabulous. Scaled down to about ⅔ the size of the revered 1956 Corvette, it has a real gas engine, 3-speed transmission, plus working lights, doors, and deck lid. You can’t help but smile at the accurate reproduction of the Corvette steering wheel, dash, and gauges.  (The “odometer” shows 1 mile which, at least for now, is accurate. The little car is new!) You open the door with a door handle much like that of a full-size ‘Vette, and you’ll see some really nice red bucket seats. Okay, maybe Ben Roethlisberger isn’t gonna fit, but there’s plenty of legroom for most adults, and just like its full-size brethren, the car seats two.  The floor shifter actually operates the three-speed transmission (plus reverse) and there’s a neat LED shift indicator. The power plant is a quite-sophisticated 107cc (not cubic inches, cc’s) 4-cycle gasoline engine that pumps out a plenty-of-fun 7 horsepower. The lights – including turn signals and brake lights – are fully functional. You certainly don’t need a child’s imagination to come up with dozens of ways to have a blast with this little Vette.  Add it to your full-size collection, cruise the car shows, display it in your garage or man-cave, or use it instead of a golf-cart at the race track. The realism, functionality, and quality are quite astounding and, shall we say, adult. But the greatest thing is, this mini-Vette will never grow up.

This is the one they saved for last.  This is the elusive Eleanor, a certified Hollywood production ‘67 500E Eleanor Fastback as seen in the Nicolas Cage film “Gone In 60 Seconds.”  That pedigree makes the car collectible, but the quality of the build and all the ultra-performance hardware render this a highly desirable automobile in its own right.  The 428 engine is balanced and features aluminum heads and Roush components. The driveline is built for severe duty and the suspension is so well sorted out that you hardly have to slow for turns.  The interior is decked out with Shelby Signature ProCar Leather front seats and custom made rear seats to match. When you fire it up, you’ll quickly grasp the level of performance built in. Of course you can show her off, but she’ll shine on the street and the track as well.

Legendary comedy star Jack Benny loved his Maxwell.  Jack performed in some famous comedy routines with Mel Blanc hilariously replicating the engine sound.  This beautifully preserved 1923 Maxwell 25 Club Coupe has been loved for many years as well. In fact, its former owner collected hard-to-find books and literature that are kept with the car.  The 185.8 cubic inch engine and 3-speed manual transmission function well to provide a vintage ride. The wood on the dash and the floor add warmth and are very well preserved. The Maxwell 25 Coupe was a popular automobile back in the Roaring ‘20’s.  42,788 were produced. Today, they are a rare sight, especially one as true to its origin as this one, and it is the recipient of several awards as a result.
