When you first see this 1951 Chevrolet 5-window Pickup, it doesn’t take long to determine that it’s truly a spectacular build. Once that determination is made, however, you’ll want to spend some quality time taking in every detail. A sure way to acquire a high quality custom is to purchase it from a body man. That way, there are no time constraints on the body and paint work, which should always be done with the utmost care. That’s the situation here, and the results are stunning. First, it’s the stylish and desirable 5 window body style. Starting with the original cab, doors, and front clip, the former owner applied a custom blend metallic gray paint. It looks — and even feels — outstanding. The finish is amazingly smooth and even. Debeer 500/High Solids clear was used in a custom made formula for the paint color. The brand new Mark K bed sports an oak floor with inlaid aluminum strips. It integrates perfectly with the rest of the exterior. There’s a custom roll pan out back and hidden tailgate hinges and latches for a smooth appearance. The lighting is all modern with custom headlights and integrated turn signals. The taillights and back-up lights are LEDs. At this stage, the project deserves all-new brightwork, and it compliments and completes the paint and body work beautifully. The final test in the body department is the doors. They close like a 2020 vehicle. It’s almost unbelievable! Wise choices abound on this truck. How about a 5.3L LS V8 for power? It includes a Schwankee wiring harness and ECU for smooth, powerful performance with modern dependability. Stainless headers empty into a hefty dual exhaust system with Flowmaster Mufflers and Magnaflow exhaust tips that exit neatly through the rear fenders. Go ahead and check off the boxes for looks and sound. A 4L60 automatic transmission contributes to the smoothness and dependability too. A handsome and nicely functional Lokar shifter makes gear changes a breeze. 3.08 gears are a good choice for driveability – especially on the highway – good fuel economy, and control. They are housed in a 10-bolt Posi rear end. Ride and handling are excellent, as they should be on a vehicle built to this level. A Heidts Mustang II front suspension with rack & pinion steering give the truck a sure-footed feel. Disc brakes all around provide modern level stopping power. There are QA1 coilovers at all four corners and a 4-link setup in the rear. The build showcases top level engineering and execution throughout. A complete custom dash features gauges that were cut and moved to be on the same angle as the steering column. Classic Instruments gauges look right at home yet are reliable and accurate. A sharp eye may detect that the dash extends lower than stock. Six inches were added to the bottom of the dash to accommodate AC vents and switches. Another neat touch is fabbed underslung pedals for a custom look. Vintage Air AC, power windows, and power locks provide the convenience you’re used to, but the equipment goes beyond mere convenience into the high tech realm. There’s a 12 volt port and USB ports to plug in your devices. And when you open the center console, you’ll find an ECU port, the speedometer interface, and main power cutoff switch. High-end beauty and functionality aplenty, so you’ll proud to own and show it, this 1951 Chevrolet 5-window Pickup is a solid investment that will provide many years of enjoyment.
