1955 Ford Thunderbird Convertible

This stunning Thunderbird Blue 1955 Ford Thunderbird Convertible will take you back to the 50s, but includes upgrades to enhance driveability and enjoyment, and it’s available now at the Maxmotive Pittsburgh Showroom. The 292 V8 was professionally rebuilt just 4000 miles ago, along with a complete overhaul of the 3-speed Fordomatic transmission. The original Teapot was replaced with a new Edelbrock 500cfm carb on a 1957 intake. The ignition was upgraded from breaker points to a Pertronix electronic ignition module and a correct tach drive distributor. And since most of your driving will be in warm weather, an electric fuel pump was installed to eliminate vapor lock. Gleaming chrome Kelsey Hayes wire wheels with spinners provide that coveted T-Bird look with wide white wall radials. Two tops come with it; the hard top has new weather stripping, and a new beige canvas soft top looks elegant as well. The seat is reupholstered and the carpet is new. The entire suspension has been freshened with new coils in front, leaf springs in back, and new shocks all around. Front suspension components, such as the control arm bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, front stabilizer bushings, and the idler arm are all new, and the power steering pump, control valve, and slave cylinder are rebuilt along with new power steering hoses. Similar attention was lavished on the brake system. The master cylinder, plus all wheel cylinders with brake hardware and shoes have been replaced. All brake drums were resurfaced and the fluid was flushed and replaced with DOT 5 synthetic. An upgrade from 6 to 12 volts brings the electrical system up to date, and the original generator was replaced with an alternator. So all the bulbs, including the headlights, are now 12 volts. Another thoughtful mod involves the shifter. T-bird shifters had to be in neutral for starting the car. The neutral safety switch now allows you to start it in park. The radio is an AM/FM stereo with dual speakers. This Bird really is mechanically and electrically sound. Even the clock keeps on ticking. The factory temp gauge requires a sending unit that is discontinued, so a gauge cluster with temp, volts, and oil pressure now resides under the dash.
