1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz – U0678
Vehicle Description
1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz. Just the name heaps luxury upon luxury. Among the largest cars ever produced by GM, this vehicle was built with nearly every luxury feature available at the time. And with front wheel drive, four-wheel disc brakes, and a self-leveling pneumatic suspension, the Eldorado was an engineering leader as well. Full size cars such as this from the seventies are in high demand. The best finds are those that were cared for by one owner for a long period of time. This fine example had just one owner for the past 24 years. It shows a low 68789 original miles, and the car is practically all original. Cadillac engines of the era were renowned for their large displacement and massive torque. This Eldo’s 425 cubic inch monster mill generates 180 horsepower but with 320 lb/ft of torque at just 2000 rpm. It sends the power to the front wheels through a Turbo Hydramatic transmission. Naturally you would expect to see power features such as power steering, power disc brakes (on all four wheels), power windows, power seats, and power mirrors. They’re all here, as are air conditioning with climate control, a tilt-telescopic steering column, delay wipers and power trunk release. But it also has a power trunk closer. Just lower the decklid and it closes and locks itself. The self-leveling suspension automatically adjusts for the load. A forerunner of today’s nav systems is the factory mounted compass under the rear view mirror. Outside the driver’s window, the mirror contains a thermometer. And when you look in the rearview mirror, you’ll see a taillight monitor located above the rear window. On this big Caddy, the door sill not only declares that the body is by Fisher, but also that the interior is by Fleetwood. Pillow-style tufted leather seating is another distinguishing feature of the Biarritz. It rides smoothly on tall P235/75R15 BF Goodrich Lifesaver radials. This is one of those great machines that inspired the expression “rides like a Cadillac.” Classic automobiles like this 1978 Eldorado Biarritz have great appeal because there are no compromises in size, luxury, power, or feature content. And best of all, it’s a Cadillac.
