The thirteenth of just 500 such cars built, this low-mileage 2009 Dodge Challenger SMS 570 is now available from the Maxmotive Pittsburgh Showroom, and it’s brimming with serious hardware. Starting under the hood, the 5.7 Gen III Hemi engine has been blessed with 500 horsepower and a brutal 520 ft-lbs of tire shredding torque. How? First is a Saleen high-performance calibration. Then the internals were beefed with forged aluminum pistons, a forged steel crankshaft, and forged steel connecting rods. The aluminum heads were CNC ported, and a high performance cam and high performance valve springs were installed. An 85mm throttle body and hp air filter take in more air and a high performance dual exhaust system and mufflers let it out. They do so in style with polished stainless tips. The ample power is sent through a high performance clutch to a 6-speed Short Throw Tremec Manual Transmission. A 3.73 Anti-Spin Differential sends the power to the wheels. The SMS SIgnature Series Exterior is highlighted by an SMS front fascia with a high volume radiator intake. The hood boasts the unique Red Butterfly Dual-Side Induction hood. It has functional air scoops with working red butterflies like a top fuel dragster. Ground effects, brake cooling vents, and a hefty rear spoiler add form and function to the mix. The SMS Signature Series S4 Ultra-High Performance Suspension is a comprehensive package with S4 specific front and rear springs, front struts, rear shocks, and sway bars fore and aft. All SMS cars get Signature Series ABS brakes, but this one has the optional cross drilled rotor upgrade. The SMS chrome wheels were also optional. All the luxury and comfort of a Challenger is here along with leather two-tone Chevron seating, a serialized dash emblem, and etched aluminum door sill plates. Steve Saleen earned a solid reputation in racing and in business, and cemented that reputation with his special breed of performance vehicles with racing-bred technology. His personal signature is on the dash.
