Vehicle Description

This 1949 Plymouth Special Deluxe Gasser is loaded with possibilities. Cruises, car shows, nostalgia events, drag racing. They’re all fair game for this super fun ride. It starts up front with one of the all-time great engines, a potent 1965 Chevy 283 small block with Power Pack heads. It packs an Edelbrock four-barrel with a cool velocity stack with K&N filter on an Edelbrock aluminum intake to handle the inhaling side. She exhales through a very trick exhaust system. A set of fenderwell headers dump into classic Cherry Bomb glasspacks, or flip the switch for open exhaust and even more rowdiness. Dependability is assured with an HEI distributor, 8mm wires, an aluminum radiator with thermostat electric fan, and a high-torque mini starter to get things going. A rebuilt Turbo 350 automatic transmits the torque. An expertly installed Hurst T-handle shifter provides exceptional control and the proper race car look. The dash mounted Sunpro tach also enhances the vibe. Beautiful white bench seats front and rear allow you to bring 4 comfortably and 6 “cozy.” You’ll find solid engineering and authentic, quality components throughout this build. This baby is actually Moon equipped! The great-looking aluminum tank up front is set up just like the gassers of the glory days. Fill it with ice water and use the dash mounted pump to quickly cool the motor down between rounds. The car really gets the power to the pavement with a Ford 8.8 Traction Lock rear axle and some very hefty ladder bars. The chassis looks great and is built to handle even more power if you’re so inclined. Some of the early straight axle gassers didn’t even have front brakes, but this Plymouth has four-wheel power disc brakes with dual master cylinder, power booster, and proportioning valve. The car brings a lot to the party in the looks department as well. White metalflake on the roof sets off the low gloss black paint and, yes, real hand painted pinstriping. The final touch for any hot rod is the wheel and tire combo. This car nails it. Rocket Racing 10 spoke Fuel Gray wheels evoke the magnesium drag wheels used on altereds and gassers back in the day. The five-spokes on back are reminiscent of the mags seen on everything from dragsters to Factory Experimentals. Hoosier big and littles are the perfect combination of racy looks and solid streetable performance. The ride and handling are almost unbelievable! The 283 mill runs so well and stays cool so well you can even do parades with confidence. Just the right look, stance, sound, and personality combine to peg the fun meter on this very well executed ‘49 Plymouth gasser.
