Renowned custom designer and automotive artist Dave Kindig and his team performed a complete custom build to create a one-of-a-kind 1953 Volkswagen Barn Door Deluxe 23-window Bus. The team started with a complete genuine 1953 BarnDoor 23-window VW Bus. The Kindig team started by installing a custom VW engine with twin Weber 48 carbs generating 176 horsepower. Then they installed a 1987 Vanagon automatic transmission for driving ease and to handle the extra power. The sheet metal was stripped, custom metalwork performed, and custom paint applied. The two-tone paint colors are Kindig’s own mixes of Bad Blood Red and Black Hole Black. Solid stock aluminum was hand formed and triple chrome plated to create the trim Soft leather seats in pale gray complement the rich gray German wool carpeting and custom headliner. The chrome Jail Bar luggage containment is a genuine feature of the Barn Door buses. A modern touch is a handsome Dakota digital gauge package. It rides on a lowered suspension with 4-wheel slotted disc brakes and staggered custom Kindig wheels. It was designed as a companion to the Collection’s 1950 VW Hebmuller Cabriolet. Please be sure to see the detailed photos at www.maxmotive.com.
*MAXmotive specializes in collectible classic and custom vehicles. We have more than 200 vehicles in our collection and have sold dozens nationwide and even overseas. We recommend that all buyers who are unable to view a vehicle in person have a pre-purchase inspection done prior to purchase. Inspections can be performed by an independent party selected by the buyer. Due to the age and uniqueness of these special vehicles, it is difficult to cover all aspects and characteristics of each vehicle’s condition within the limited space available. Thus, pre-purchase inspections are helpful to all parties involved. The information provided for this vehicle is presented to the best of our knowledge, and is deemed reliable. But MAXmotive does not warrant or guarantee this information as a basis for purchase. It is the responsibility of the buyer to make a thorough inspection to determine the suitability of the vehicle prior to purchase.
